Yuan Ze University

Origin of the Department of Art and Design

The Department of Art and Design was officially renamed in August 2010, following the approval of the Ministry of Education, and now includes both undergraduate and graduate programs (Bachelor’s and Master’s in Art Management).

In response to evolving trends and the pursuit of academic excellence, the department has planned foundational art courses and aims to integrate campus resources to create a professional and comprehensive learning environment for students.

The department emphasizes a deep-rooted appreciation of art and creative expression. It teaches students how to draw inspiration from their experiences through art history and foundational techniques. Beyond basic art skills and art history courses, the curriculum includes creative guidance and expertise in other fields, fostering the realization of creativity in the 21st century's knowledge economy. Students are encouraged to think independently, engage in critical communication, and transform their ideas into creative energy. This prepares them with the ability to innovate and adapt to the diverse creative demands of the future workforce.

Over the past two decades, Taiwan has seen the establishment of public art museums, cultural centers, and university art centers, all of which bear the responsibility of art education and cultural enrichment to enhance public art appreciation and enrich spiritual life. Economic development has led to the rise of art collections by businesses, private art foundations, private museums, galleries, and even art auction houses, increasing their influence. Additionally, Taiwan's cultural and creative industries, supported by both private and governmental efforts, are expected to become a key platform for creative industries in the Chinese-speaking world, offering diverse opportunities and challenges. In light of these changes, the master's program is designed to cultivate exceptional art management professionals capable of navigating complex competitive fields and supporting diverse artistic functions.
