Curriculum Emphases

The Graduate school and Department comply with domestic and overseas trends in the development of arts and culture, and the teaching is largely responsive to the following factors:

  • Operate an internationalized, information-based, and practice-based Art and Design learning environment in order to enhance student knowledge

    We cultivate in students the ability of independent thinking, analytical creativity, and proper attention to both theory and creation in the Art and Design profession. We aim to enable students to understand Chinese and Western art threads, and grasp the international and domestic Art and Design trends.

  • Develop specialized and integrated Art and Design exchange space, in order to cultivate in students the macro-perspective of vision

    We hope to absorb the nutrients and to give new vitality based on the traditional and contemporary cultural content. Students are trained in analytical judgement, communication and creative thinking, the performance of professional Art and Design style, and are able to demonstrate the integration of macro-perspective.

  • Focus on creativity and the characteristics of the meaning of Art and Design study, in order to cultivate students’ practical ability

    We hope to inspire the imagination of the students through diverse Art and Design courses. We focus on the inspiration of creative thinking and potential development in the learning process. With the strengthening of the basic courses, we cultivate students’ professional and practical creativity.

  • Emphasize independent thinking and teamwork in the Art and Design working pattern, in order to train students in a professional and responsible manner

    The curriculum emphasis is on training students to think independently and creatively, and to cultivate students’ sense of shared responsibility through project teamwork.

Curriculum Feature

The M.A. Program in Art Management is designed to provide training as follows:

  • Strengthen Chinese and Western art history, with equal emphasis on the traditional and contemporary, in order to lay the foundation for diversified developments.

  • Combine management concepts and skills to enhance administration efficiency.
  • Emphasize the integration of practice and theory in the Arts Administration practical training.

The curriculum of the Department of Art and Design is divided into two stages.

The first stage is the basic stage for freshmen and sophomores and is focused on the learning and the creative application of the knowledge of Art and Design, with complete training in manual techniques (sketching, oil painting, designing creativity, etc…) and computer knowledge which will take place in brand new computer training classrooms, carpentry factories and drawing classrooms.

In the second stage, students will be divided into two groups according to their interests. The first is ‘Artistic Creation’ which includes digital, technical, new-media, multimedia and visual recorded arts as the main focus; the second is ‘Design Creation’, which focuses chiefly on aesthetic style, space, environment, furniture and other related designs.

  • Training in Practical Creating

    Working in two stages, form basic to professional, using Art and Design as main axis for creative training. Students are encouraged to work between art and design to strengthen an interdisciplinary background and broad competitiveness by using appliances such as the carpentry/metalworking factory and computer lab.

  • Interaction with Contemporary Technology

    Combining with the information technology advantages that YZU provides, students are easily equipped with digital multi-media skills. By combining technology and art, students can integrate tradition and innovation, creating extraordinary and multiform work.

  • Intensifying Artistic Knowledge

    Through relate courses, students are professionally trained contemplate ability, analysis ability and creative ability by reviewing art and design from areas western to Taiwan, classic to contemporary, and design theory to aesthetic concept.

  • Edification in Creative Development

    Using artistic creations as a foundation to edify possible performances in student creativity in areas such as chromatic experiments and application, creative aesthetics, form and spatial development and creative physical development etc.
